Bio

Born in St. Paul, Minnesota
Home is Scottsdale, Arizona

Theresa Tarara is a fine art photographer living in Scottsdale, Arizona. She studied at The University of Arizona in Tucson AZ majoring in Studio Art with an emphasis in Photography from 1978 to 1980, and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BFA in Photography at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona in 2002.
To create her photographs she uses an iPhone, Adobe Photoshop Software on a Mac, a digital Pentax KS2, analogue film on a vintage Polaroid Land Camera, 35mm Olympus OM1, an Argus CS3 camera, a medium format Mamiya C330 and various camera less techniques. Her continued focus is to learn more about experimental hand made imagery combined with nineteenth century alternative photo processes.

I take pictures to escape from difficulties of life, to give new meaning to things out of my control. Time is spent thinking about how to make art. I enjoy printmaking with gum bichromate, digital collage, cyanotype and toning, as these give me a stage to play out my dreams. Placing that into a final image to share with others is a challenge as I love the sense of accomplishment seeing the work I have made over the years, learning ways to accept failures and successes. Searching for so long that comfort level (Home) to continue to come back to is how life makes perfect sense finally in the scheme of things.
